A brand new laboratory for LNHB
Partner: Laboratoire national d’essais (LNE)
On 4 June this year, the Laboratoire National Henri Becquerel (LNHB) of LIST inaugurated its new radioactivity metrology laboratory, in which the renovation work is now complete (9 April). This renewal will enable LNHB to consolidate and secure its position of European leadership in metrology of radioactivity and to figure among the "top three" major European laboratories.
As the national laboratory for metrology of ionising radiation, the LNHB is benefiting from a multi-year framework-agreement with the Laboratoire National de métrologie et d’Essais, who are responsible for overseeing French metrology. As part of this mission, the laboratory is responsible for producing reference standards in the area of ionising radiation (dosimetry and radioactivity).
Its research also enables it to participate in the development of international research tools like the SOLEIL synchrotron, to develop innovating technologies for health, notably in radiotherapy, and to contribute to the development of the nuclear industry.
During the inauguration, Jean Therme, director of technological research at CEA, pointed out that the renovation of the laboratory was a strong signal of the commitment of CEA, alongside LNE, to support metrology of ionising radiation, in the context of the renaissance of nuclear energy and the development of medical applications of ionising radiation.
In conclusion, Yves Caristan, director of Physical Sciences and of CEA Saclay stated that he was pleased with this renovation which will enable the LNHB to guarantee the quality of experimental results and to maintain its expertise at the highest level.
