A new approach
to 3-dimensional measurement
ActiCM was
created in 2000 by hiving-off
two LIST engineers. The company
offers to industry 3D measurement
and digitalization technology
that combines the principles
of photogrammetry with digital
image processing. This enables
substantial increases in productivity
in factory-dimensional checks
(automotive, aeronautical,
machining etc.). ActiCM is
now operating in the region
of Grenoble, with the support
of Emertec and Anvar funds,
and has a staff of around ten.
The company continues to work
in close collaboration with
the LIST, particularly in the
field of virtual reality research,
in two RNTL (French national
software technology innovation
and research network) projects
relating to heightened reality
and three-dimensional environment
reconstruction.

Touching
virtual objects
HAPTION, which
was created in September 2001,
is a limited company that designs,
produces and markets computerized
force feedback peripherals, also
referred to as "haptic interfaces".
As a LIST spin-off, HAPTION has
benefited from the granting of
technology through a license,
and by the training of its staff
in
the techniques of design and
construction of force feedback
systems. The fields of application
are computer-assisted design
(virtual assembly and ergonomic
analysis), training (technical
moves etc.), and remote control
in hostile environments (nuclear,
military and undersea).

Ultrasonic
non-destructive testing
The company M2M
was formed in October 2003. It
has benefited from the research
work conducted by the LIST and
the development work carried
out in the context of a joint
venture for a new ultrasonic
system, and has the mission of
designing, building, marketing
and maintaining multi-element
equipment for non-destructive
testing. Its goal is to improve
the existing technology to address
the needs of a number of sectors
of industry (power generation,
aeronautics, railways, automotive,
metallurgy etc.). The head office
of M2M is at Saint-Rémy
near Chalon-sur-Saône,
and it has an office in the Paris
area. M2M also utilizes a numbers
of LIST licenses relating to
ultrasonic non-destructive testing.

NewPhenix was
formed in early 2004 and is one
of the first editors in the world
to supply a range of fully-operational
products combining use of text
and images in a truly crosslingual
context. Using cutting-edge technology
originating from the LIST, this
startup commercializes a range
of products based on an engine
with a set of multimedia information
modeling and analysis functions
(text and image) specially designed
to enable automatic use of its
content. The linguistic modules
already available include German,
English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish,
French, Italian and Russian.
